Ringling Bros. Names Its Next Ringmaster, Who Joins One Of The Most Exclusive Clubs In The World
January 2005 (Newstream) -- "Ladies and gentlemen, Children Of All Ages," one of the most exclusive jobs at the oldest and largest circus in the U.S. has been filled!
Tyron (tie-WREN) McFarlan has been selected as the 34th ringmaster in the 134-year history of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus. The title of ringmaster is one of the most exclusive and sought-after jobs in the circus - one that does not come along very often. In fact, fewer people have been ringmasters for Ringling Bros than have served as President of the United States!
In looking for the 34th ringmaster, judges were looking for performers with strong pop singing abilities and dynamic speaking/announcer voices. In keeping with tradition, the ideal ringmaster radiates a commanding presence, energy, charm and theatrical style as Master of Ceremonies for performances
The judges found that combination in Tyron McFarlan of Columbia, SC. A former Captain in the Army National Guard and University of South Carolina grad, McFarlan brings a unique background to this pivotal role, including stints in "Ragtime," "Jesus Christ Superstar," "Showboat" and portraying one of Ford Motor Company's "Tough Guys" for the F-150 ad campaign. He describes his good fortune to be selected as Ringmaster as an occasion to "celebrate life," and looks forward to sharing his excitement with his three-year-old daughter Nymah, who'll visit him on the road throughout the show's tour.
Tyron debuts as Ringmaster in the 135th Edition of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey in January 2005. For more information, visit
