President's New Helicopter Offers Cutting-Edge Safety Technology
Hundreds of U.S. companies ready to build new fleet for President
January 2005 (Newstream) -- The Department of Defense is on the verge of purchasing a new Marine One fleet of helicopters for presidential service.
Sikorsky Aircraft, whose helicopters have served every president since Eisenhower, is proposing the H-92 for use as the next fleet of Marine One helicopters. The H-92 is equipped with the latest safety technology in the industry, such as fuel tanks that break away in a hard landing and the ability to withstand a birdstrike at 150 knots. The aircraft also offers exceptional payload, range and speed, along with a 50 percent decrease in internal noise and 30 percent decrease in vibration to provide the President a quieter and more comfortable ride.
In addition to manufacturing and maintaining the current Marine One fleet, Sikorsky manufactures the Army Black Hawk and Navy Seahawk, the US military's workhorse helicopters in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sikorsky has teamed with six other US-based companies on the All American Team to build the H-92. Each company on the All American team has experience with presidential flight experience. All American Team members include companies in Texas, Iowa, New York, Florida, Illinois, Oklahoma and Massachusetts In addition, Sikorsky Aircraft has more than 225 US-based aerospace suppliers across 41 states that are qualified and ready to build the next presidential helicopter fleet.
Security is paramount to the presidential transport mission. Sikorsky already has a secure facility and more than 500 skilled employees, all US citizens, with security clearances required to design, build and service presidential aircraft.
